NUDE - Rectangular Ribbon Microphone
These microphones absolutely rock for mic'ing up guitar cabs, over percussion, for horns, for sax and for vocals. The sound is full, warm without a hint of harsh bite. They excel in situations where other mics overload such as searing electric guitar solos and really heavy rock. It is truly a mic with a beautiful and distinctive tone. It comes presented in a blond-wood plush display box. It has a distinctive rectangular shape reminiscent of the original RCA broadcast mics. The sound is luscious and warm. The mic is built like a tank and feels heavy in the hand and includes a sturdy suspension mount. This is a really beautifully crafted, mellow yet full sounding mic suitable for a huge range of studio applications. A fine addition to any studio microphone inventory.

"...New mic for the locker. The @nudemicrophones Rectangular Ribbon. I often reach for my SE 2200 condenser when recording acoustic with one mic, but had heard about the warm lows and natural high frequencies that the Nude Ribbon had to offer....it provided an intimate and well rounded acoustic guitar sound..."

David ‘Milky’ Millward - Audio Engineer - Unit3 Studios - Dawlish UK
"...Hi NUDE, just thought I’d drop you a line to say how much we loved using the Rectangular Ribbon mic at a long session over the weekend. We used it as a violin & viola mic and also for a gentle acapella vocal song. It was lovely on both. Warm and smooth, it tamed a quite sibilant vocal very well...Please let me know when they’re back in stock. I fancy getting another one..."
Rob Wellington - Musician, Producer, Engineer, Filmmaker, Developer - Tantamount Productions/Princess Studio Australia
"...I got a pair. I use for vocals and drums, but they’re ribbons so you can use them on a loud amp or a ukulele. The "Blumlein" I think it’s called, stereo ribbon is also brilliant..."
Dick Busser - Audio Engineer - Maleny Queensland, Australia
“…Just confirming that this dual ribbon mic arrived yesterday. I’ve unpacked it but not fired it up yet (I’m sure it will check out fine). I decided to get a second one because it is a unique and there isn’t anything as wonderful sounding in capability anywhere near this price point. I have lusted after the AEA R88 (original or ‘a’) but the cost always applied the brakes to my card flashing tendencies. These dual ribbons boosted and EQ’d a bit via a nice pre-amp are breathtakingly accurate - at a fraction of the cost of the ‘big guns’…”
St John Marsden – MMG Brisbane
"Other day, doing a live studio recording and used a pair of Nude ribbons on a Steinway grand. I was playing engineer and Jon Marsden (Indie soul rock god to be) was running the show, playing and producing 4 other musos and was in an out of the control room.
I put a pair of BeezNeez Lulu fet SDC mid piano in ORTF, and then put a spaced pair of Nude ribbons at the tail of the piano. - really so I could aim the null points at the drums over to one side. (The ribbons had way less drum bleed than the sdc’s) Anyway thought I might start the 'left a bit right a bit' process with the mics to get sound right. Put my head around the door into the control room to ask them to start the mic placement process. No need....AlI can say I was met with this world class, effing awesome sound of a grand piano, like on some sound stage of the BBC !! I kept cool and grinned. Go the Nudes!"

Tim Godwin – Producer – TimGodwinMusic
“...Once you sort through the noise of all the big brands in audio, you can find some sonically amazing bits of kit, Aussie owned and affordable. I really dig the NUDE Microphones ribbon, it tames the fundamentals of my voice and has a nice natural roll off in the top end...”

Sean Ballenden - Producer – Triple Three Productions
“...Absolutely loving these new Ribbon mics. Sounding awesome on Guitars and Vocals. Very keen to get them over a Drumkit this week. Highly recommend these mics...”

The NUDE M49 Tube driven condenser microphone does not need phantom power as it has its own proprietary power supply
How can I tell which is the front of my NUDE Microphone?
For NUDE tube condenser microphones such as the NUDE M49, the front is the side that sounds clearest, fullest and most direct when the mic is set to cardioid. The front has a cardiod pattern engraved to indicate the micxrophone front. The NUDE M49 has its polar selection switches on the front of the microphones Power Supply Unit
Everyone’s looking for a magic bullet but trust your ears – they are the great arbiter – the correct orientation is the one that gives the most useful sound in your room.
Will I need a specific preamp for NUDE ribbon Microphones?
No special preamp is required for NUDE ribbon microphones.
Passive ribbon microphones are naturally lower-output than condenser microphones, so a clean audio interface or preamp with around 60+dB of gain is a good starting point. Loud sources such as drums, brass and guitar amps usually need much less gain because they are acoustically loud.
For quiet sources or extra clean gain, an inline booster such as a Cloudlifter can be useful. For more colour, many engineers enjoy pairing ribbon microphones with character preamps such as TRP or Neve.
For more guidance, see our Matching Microphones and Preamps page and online calculator:

Do NUDE Microphones come with a warranty?
Yes. All NUDE Microphones are covered by a 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects. If something fails that should not fail, contact us and we’ll help make it right.
Accidental damage, drops, dents, misuse, moisture exposure, wind blasts and phantom-power damage and recording a jet engine at 1m are not manufacturing defects, but we’ll still do our best to help you find a sensible repair path.
