THE MATCHED PAIR
A matched pair turns the warm, natural and lusciously musical character of the NUDE Rectangular Ribbon into a flexible stereo recording system. Selected within ±2 dB, the two microphones give you dependable left/right balance and a stable image while preserving the depth, body and human-ear realism that make the single Rectangular Ribbon so useful.
Cross the two figure-8 microphones at 90° for coincident Blumlein stereo. Use one as Mid and the second at 90° as Side when a figure-8 Mid suits the source and room, then decode and adjust the width in the mix. Move them apart for a spacious spaced pair, or explore a parallel figure-8, Faulkner-style array for focused width with strong lateral rejection.
Put the pair over drums, across a piano, in front of an ensemble, around an acoustic performance or out in the room. Their side nulls give you practical control over spill and reflections, while the smooth ribbon top end keeps cymbals, strings, brass and other overtone-rich sources musical rather than hard.
And a matched pair never has to stay together. Use one on a guitar cabinet and the other on a vocal, split them across two horns, or keep one close while the second captures the room. Each microphone remains a complete, transformer-isolated passive ribbon with published headroom above 145 dB SPL.
One matched pair. Multiple stereo techniques. Two distinctive microphones whenever the session needs them.
WE LOVE LISTENING
Three real owner sessions reveal the voice of one Rectangular Ribbon. A matched pair lets you build that same warm, natural character into stereo — or split the two microphones across separate sources.

FRONT-OF-KIT DRUMS

RECORDING APPLICATIONS
A matched pair expands one distinctive ribbon voice into a versatile stereo toolkit, while remaining two fully independent microphones whenever the session calls for separate spot duties.
Cross the two figure-8 microphones at 90° for a coincident stereo image with rich room information and strong mono compatibility when placed carefully.
Open up overhead, front-of-kit or room positions with matched level behaviour, rounded cymbals and useful side nulls for controlling spill.
Hear the ribbon characterUse one figure-8 microphone as Mid and the second at 90° as Side, then decode in the mix to move from a solid centre to adjustable stereo width.
Explore a Faulkner-style parallel pair for focused stereo width, strong lateral rejection and a spacious sense of the source and room.
Hear the acoustic characterCapture scale, placement and room around piano, strings, horns, choirs or small ensembles without pushing upper harmonics toward hardness.
Split the pair across guitar cabinets, voices, horns, percussion or any two sources that benefit from body, smoothness and natural top-end restraint.
Use them together or separately on banjo, mandolin, resonator, steel-string and bottleneck blues slide while preserving articulation and rhythmic snap.
Build a smooth stereo picture of splashy cymbals, shakers and tambourines — or use one mic wherever a bright source needs its hard edge rounded.
THE NUMBERS

Use them together for multiple stereo arrays or separately as two complete mono microphones.
Published headroom for guitar cabinets, brass, drums and other loud sources.
Full low-frequency reach with the smooth high-frequency character expected from a ribbon.

EVERYTHING IN THE BOX
Two matched NUDE Rectangular Ribbon microphones, two fitted blond-wood presentation cases and two proprietary rectangular suspension mounts.
A pair selected within ±2 dB, with each passive microphone built around dual 1.8-micron aluminium ribbons and an asymmetrical figure-8 pattern.
Each microphone has its own fitted wood case for protected storage and transport between sessions.
One proprietary rectangular suspension mount per microphone supports secure stand placement while helping isolate mechanical vibration.
FROM NUDE OWNERS
Owners using one, two or returning for a second Rectangular Ribbon consistently describe warmth, smoothness, useful rejection and a character that works across entire sessions.
We used the Rectangular Ribbon as a violin and viola mic and for a gentle a cappella vocal. It was lovely on both — warm and smooth, and it tamed a quite sibilant vocal very well. I fancy getting another one.
I got a pair. I use them for vocals and drums, but they’re ribbons, so you can use them on a loud amp or a ukulele.
I decided to get a second one because it is unique and there isn’t anything as wonderful sounding anywhere near this price point. These dual ribbons are breathtakingly accurate — at a fraction of the cost of the big guns.
I put a spaced pair of NUDE ribbons at the tail of a Steinway grand and aimed the null points at the drums. The ribbons had way less drum bleed — and the piano sound was world class.
I really dig the NUDE ribbon. It tames the fundamentals of my voice and has a nice natural roll-off in the top end.
Absolutely loving these new ribbon mics. Sounding awesome on guitars and vocals… Highly recommend these mics.
GOOD TO KNOW
The practical questions that come up before you put two passive ribbons into a stereo or multi-source session.
No. Both are passive ribbon microphones, so phantom power is not required. Best practice is to switch phantom power off on both channels and use properly wired balanced XLR cables.
For stereo recording, yes: each microphone needs its own clean preamp or interface channel. Passive ribbons are naturally lower-output than condenser microphones, so around 60+ dB of clean gain is a useful starting point for quieter sources. Loud guitar cabinets, drums and brass need much less. When using the microphones independently, you only need a channel for each mic in use.
The two figure-8 microphones support coincident Blumlein, Mid/Side when a figure-8 Mid suits the source, spaced-pair recording and parallel figure-8 or Faulkner-style arrays. Placement and the acoustic space remain decisive, so move the microphones, listen and check mono compatibility as you build the image.
The pair has been selected so the microphones’ output levels are closely aligned within a ±2 dB tolerance. That supports dependable left/right balance and makes stereo placement easier. They are still individual acoustic instruments, so final positioning should always be judged by ear.
Absolutely. Each Rectangular Ribbon is a complete mono microphone. Use the pair together for stereo, or split them across two guitar cabinets, voices, horns, percussion instruments or any other sources that benefit from a warm, natural and musical ribbon presentation.
No. This listing includes two matched microphones, two fitted blond-wood presentation cases and two proprietary suspension mounts. A stereo adaptor bar is available separately, or as part of the dedicated matched-pair-with-adaptor-bar product.
Keep both microphones dry and protected from dust, moisture and strong air movement. Do not blow into them or place them in front of direct air blasts. Avoid drops and use phantom power switched off. Upright storage cannot hurt, but normal protected storage is suitable for well-built modern ribbons.
READY WHEN YOU ARE
Blumlein. Mid/Side. Spaced pairs. Parallel figure-8 arrays. Drums. Piano. Ensembles. Or two independent spot microphones — one pair that keeps moving with the session.
